When you no longer fit your own life.

When you no longer fit your own life

In coaching, I often hear this:

"I know I need a change. I just don’t know what I want."

That moment, the not-knowing, is not a failure. It’s the beginning. The doorway. The first honest breath after years of being on autopilot.

Sometimes change knocks gently: a growing restlessness, a desire for more space, more truth. Other times it hits like a wave: cancer, grief, burnout, or a sudden goodbye.

We don’t always choose the change. But we can choose how we meet it.

Frida Kahlo began painting seriously while lying in a hospital bed, her body shattered, but her spirit not waiting for perfect conditions.

Some rebuild slowly. Others pivot fast. Most of us do both, awkwardly.

The point is: you don’t have to be ready. You just have to begin.

What if you designed a life that fit now?

Not the life you planned five years ago. Not the one that looks good from the outside. The one that fits who you’ve become.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I want my days to feel like?

  • What do I want to stand for?

  • What would I regret not trying?

You don’t need a total reinvention. You just need a small, true step.

Three small choices that start big change

  1. Say no to one thing that drains you.

  2. Say yes to something that scares you a little, but feels right.

  3. Tell the truth (to yourself or someone else) about what you no longer want.

Change begins with one honest yes.

And if you’re scared? That’s normal.

You will succeed.
Don’t be afraid.
Don’t worry.
You have a huge potential.
And if it doesn’t go exactly as planned? That’s not failure. That’s information. That’s life guiding you toward what’s yours.

What’s the worst that can happen?
You learn.
You grow.
You change direction.

But what’s the best that can happen?
You become someone you’re proud of.
Someone a little braver. A little freer. A little more you.

If you're just beginning to explore this path, you might want to start with the first part: When You Don’t Know What You Want.
